The South West Slopes Times is thrilled to announce the addition of Elizabeth to our editorial team as our newest full-time journalist. With a robust background in regional reporting, creative writing, and media communications, Elizabeth brings a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience to our newsroom, promising to enrich our coverage of local stories across the South West Slopes region.
Originally hailing from the Murrumbateman/Gundaroo community, Elizabeth has built an impressive career rooted in her lifelong passion for storytelling.
Currently pursuing a PhD in Humanities at the University of Canberra—set for completion in late 2028—she holds an Honours degree of Arts in Creative Writing (Class 2A, graduated 2024) and a double degree in Communication and Media (Journalism) and Arts (Creative Writing) from 2020-2023. Her academic achievements underscore her dedication to honing her craft, blending journalistic rigour with creative flair.
Elizabeth’s professional journey is marked by hands-on roles in journalism and media. Most recently, since 2024, she has served as a journalist at Canberra CityNews. In this position, she handled everything from research and interviews to writing, editing, and
photography for print, digital, and social media platforms. She managed social media accounts, produced advertorial and editorial content, and thrived under tight deadlines for weekly print and daily online publications.
Prior to that, Elizabeth was the Media and Communications Officer for Yass Valley Council from September 2023 to October 2024. There, she crafted media releases, managed social media, planned marketing strategies, while using design tools to create branded content for internal and external audiences.
Her editorial experience extends to working as a journalist and editor at the Gundaroo Gazette from 2019 to 2024, where she oversaw content submissions, researched and wrote feature stories, managed an editorial team, handled finances from advertising revenue, and maintained social media and marketing efforts—all while meeting monthly deadlines with poise under pressure. Her internships further highlight her commitment to the field: in 2022 an internship at Her Canberra, focusing on content creation for online and social media. Then 2023 at The Canberra Times, where she wrote, interviewed, and researched for an article through a university partnership.
As a published author, Elizabeth has seen her work in print across various outlets. Her accomplishments include articles in the Gundaroo Gazette (2019-2024), Her Canberra (2022), Canberra CityNews (2024-25), and The Canberra Times (2023) with the piece “‘It’s an amazing community’: 4WDing dirt girls make their own tracks.” In fiction, she has authored two pieces, with more in the works.
Elizabeth’s skill set is as diverse as her experience: she excels in teamwork and independent work, adapts to changing environments, meets tight deadlines, solves problems creatively, and maintains excellent public relations.
